Step 3 If you qualify for the program, your kit will be sent to you in the mail in three to four weeks.

On Saturday, August 28, three local men took on the physical and mental challenge of swimming from Sechelt to Nanaimo all in the name of KidSport. Jim Cambon, Jim Gould, and Matt Smith split the 32km into a relay and reached the shores of Vancouver Island after eleven hours.

“As proud parents, we all realize the importance of keeping kids active and healthy and the need to ensure as many kids as possible have access to organized sports for their health and growth into young adults.”

Thanks to their incredible fortitude and generosity, many BC children will now have the opportunity to play sport and become lifelong athletes like these three friends.

Team Canada is coming to town and they want your support – of KidSport!  Metro Basketball has partnered with Canada Basketball to support KidSport BC for the CANADA vs. CHINA men’s basketball game on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Rogers Arena.

Wes Durksen was a Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows school district teacher and principal known for his kindness, moral strength, and tireless commitment to make education of children a priority. He loved the kids at his schools and was known as the principal who knew every student’s name. Wes was also a sports enthusiast (especially golf!). KidSport BC has been named the charity of choice for the 2010 Corporate Champions tournament. From July 5 to July 23, Vancouver’s business community can take part in an Olympic style sport tournament.

Bragging rights are going to be more than about market cap. Now, the bragging rights will derive from on the court and the field as companies face off against one another to crown Corporate Champions!

Sports will include soccer, volleyball, basketball, flag football, dodgeball and ultimate frisbee at four different venues.
Inspired by the Winter Olympics and the FIFA World Cup, Corporate Champions Vancouver aims to inspire the power of sport in the workplace. Simply, the aim is to build teams and generate company pride through sport. Staff that used to only interact in the elevator or in the coffee room can complete and cheer for each other, contributing to more productive and harmonious workplaces.

CPGA Golfer Oliver Tubb joins KidSport on the green

KidSport is hitting the links this month for the 15^th anniversary of our annual Golf Tournament and we are inviting the public to join us. Hosted at Morgan Creek Golf Course, the tournament raises funds to provide a season of sport to local children who otherwise cannot afford to play.

The shamble-style tournament will be followed by a dinner buffet and a live and silent auction. On the heels of the inspirational Olympic performances by Team KidSport’s athlete ambassadors, the auctions will feature Olympic themed items including a team signed jersey from Canada’s gold medal women’s hockey team, an Olympic torch, and a special donation from long-time KidSport supporter, VANOC CEO John Furlong.

KidSport continues to expand with help from community partners 

 Richmond, BC – KidSport and Triple O’s are joining forces to provide more children across British Columbia with opportunities to be active and get involved in organized sport.

 In April 2010, KidSport became Triple O’s official charity partner and, to kick off the partnership, Triple O’s will be launching a two week in-store promotion with KidSport around Father’s Day (June 14-27, 2010). Funds raised during the promotion will help financially disadvantaged youth experience the benefits of sport participation by providing the registration fees for a sport season of their choice.

  “Triple O’s is a community staple in BC,” said Sport BC’s Executive Vice-President Rick Christiaanse, “With their support, KidSport is better prepared to serve children from all corners of the province who were inspired to participate in sport following the 2010  Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.”

 “Triple O’s is thrilled to be in partnership with KidSport,” said White Spot Hospitality President Warren Erhart. “We feel that every child should be able to experience the benefits that playing a sport can give them and we look forward to contributing to such a worthy organization.”

 Since its inception, KidSport has enabled 250,000 children to play sport across the country. Established by Sport BC in 1993, KidSport is now present in 40 communities across British Columbia and over 175 communities across Canada. With assistance from partners like Triple O’s, KidSport BC continues to expand its reach to ensure all children across the province have the opportunity to experience the power of sport.

Held in the Cariboo each year, this event has undergone some recent changes in name and focus as it hopes to build awareness and impress upon local residents the importance and benefits of sport participation amongst its youth.

Funds raised in the Williams Lake community stay in the community and provide grants for children ages 6 – 18 allowing them to participate in a sport season of their choice.
