KidSport continues to expand across British Columbia “So ALL Kids Can Play!”
Richmond, BC – On Tuesday, January 26, 2010, KidSport BC officially launched the KidSport Dawson Creek community chapter with a cheque presentation at the Memorial Arena. Dawson Creek is the latest community in British Columbia to open a KidSport community chapter, bringing the total number across the province to 32.
Dawson Creek Mayor, Mike Bernier, was on hand to receive the start-up cheque from EnCana Community Relations Advisor, Brian Lieverse and Pete Quevillon, Director of KidSport BC. The funds will provide KidSport Dawson Creek with the resources required to develop the new chapter and begin serving children in the local community.
”We at EnCana are pleased to help open this new KidSport chapter with seed money to get kids playing sports as soon as possible,” said Lieverse. “With the Olympic spirit in the northeast, it’s amazing to think kids who benefit from this chapter could have their own Olympic journey one day.”
“Dawson Creek has an active and thriving sports community that should be accessible to all youth,” said Bernier. “Sport helps build a child’s character and self esteem, and is essential in their development, so I am excited that we are starting up a Kids Sport Chapter in Dawson Creek, so no child is left behind. A special thanks to all those who donate, and volunteer to assist the youth of our community.”
KidSport Dawson Creek will provide registration grants for children ages 6-18 to ensure all children can participate in a sport season of their choice. This chapter is one of many new community chapters opening over the next few months to serve the influx of children who will be inspired to participate in sport following the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
